LUCKNOW || The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to implement two crop insurance scheme during the 2016 khariff season. The two schemes are — Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PM Crop Insurance Scheme) and Poonargathit Mausam-adhaarit Fasal Bima Yojana (Re-organised weather-based crop insurance scheme.
Giving further information on this agriculture minister Vinod Kumar Pandit Singh said that the first scheme has been launched in 65 districts of the state, while in the second stage, 10 districts would be brought under the ambit of the second scheme.
A decision has also been taken to implement the second scheme for banana cultivation in Kushinagar and Gorakhpur. Similar decision has been taken for the cultivation of chilly in Fatehpur and Firozabad.
The minister also mentioned that financial assistance would be provided farmers, who could avail benefits of insurance in case of natural calamity, diseases, destruction of the crops, non-sowing of crops and destruction of crops post harvesting.
He further stated that the insurance companies both nominated by the Centre, and formed by the state government would ascertain the exact quantum of loss as per laid down norms. The companies would pay the insurance amount payable to the insured farmers within 45 days.
