LUCKNOW || In the light of directions given by the Supreme Court (SC) on sale of fireworks in the New Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR), the Uttar Pradesh government has issued a government order (GO) to district falling under this region to “curtail the number of temporary fireworks sale licenses by 50 per cent of last year” a home department official said on Friday.
Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar informed that several directive shave been sent to police officials of the region that include creating awareness on non-use of fire works and crackers, seeking public support against crackers and pollution control. Police has also been asked to ensure complete compliance of not allowing use of fireworks in silence zones.
The GO says that “health and safety of people should take precedence over any commercial or other interest of applicant for licenses to sell crackers”. The orders have been issued in reference to sale of crackers and fireworks in Ghaziabad, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Noida (Gautambuddhnagar), Meerut and Hapur.
