LUCKNOW || A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Fareed Mehfooz Kidwai, minister of state (independent charge) for Technical Education at Darul Shafa to deliberate upon the problems faced by almost two-third weavers of the state.
The meeting was organised by Bhartiya Hastakala Bunkar evam Dastkar Kalyan Sansthan. One of the problems, discussed included a mechanism to ensure proper sale of the handicrafts made by the artisans.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the state government would revive UPICA and UP Handloom, so that the basic problem of the weavers pertaining to their bread and butter is redressed.
“The government would buy all the cloth piece for all official purposes from UPICA and UP Handloom, so that lakhs of weavers could directly benefit, and they could get a fair remuneration for the efforts put in by them,” Kidwai said, and assured that the state government would do everything possible to redress the grievances of the weavers.
Speaking on the occasion, chairman of the Bhartiya Hastakala Bunkar evam Dastkar Kalyan Sansthan, Afzal–ul-Haq Azad emphasised on proper purchase mechanism of the final products, so that the weavers could directly benefit. He also sought loan waiver for the weavers from the state government.
