KANPUR || Seven youngsters were washed away in the Ganga river in Kanpur on Wednesday when one of them slipped into the river while taking a selfie and others tried to save him, police said.
Six bodies have been fished out of the river while hunt is on to find the last body, an official said while adding that one boy has been rescued safely.
Kauhana station house officer (SHO) JP Sharma informed that the boys were enjoying the rains that lashed the city on Wednesday, when one of them trying to take a selfie by standing on the edge of the barrage tripped and fell in the Ganges, which is in spate due to rains in the region.
Other in an attempt to save him jumped into the river but were themselves washed away. The sole survivor Arjun ran and informed a police outpost nearby after which rescue operations were rolled out but it was too late by then.
The deceased have been identified as Shivam, Satyam, Sachin, Sandeep, Rohit, Golu and Masood.
