CHITRAKOOT || A police sub-inspector was martyred in a gun battle with a gang of dacoits in Chitrakoot district on Thursday. A team of police led by the superintendent of police, on a tip off from a source, went to the Nihi Chiraiyya jungles in Manikpur area where they ambushed the gang of Babuli Kol.
The bandits retaliated with heavy gun fire, killing station house officer (SHO) of Raipura, JP Singh. He sustained a bullet injury in his chest and was rushed to the
Manipur hospital but due to his critical condition was rushed to a medical facility in Karvi, where he died.
A dacoit Raju Kol, who holds a reward of Rs 10,000 on his head was arrested and it is apprehended that many injured dacoits are on the run. A search operation is underway to nab them, a senior official at the DGP office said. Babuli Kol is a notorious bandit of the region and carries a cash reward of Rs 5.5 lakh on his head.
His right hand man Lavkesh Kol is also reportedly injured in the gun battle. Senior police officials have rushed to the encounter site and will supervise the search operations.
