KOLKATA || Neil O’Brien, who pioneered quizzing in India, passed away at the age of 82 on Friday. He was a former member of the Lok Sabha and also the West Bengal state assembly.
“Saddest tweet I’ve ever written. Dad Neil O’Brien gone. Passed at home Kolkata, quiz pioneer, ex-ICSE chief, AI (Anglo-Indian) community icon, educationist,” his son and Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien tweeted.
Neil O’Brien had conducted the first well-organized, formal quiz in 1967 at Christ the King Church Parish Hall in then Calcutta (now Kolkata).
He was also a former chairman of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination and the Inter State Board of Anglo-Indian Education.
