GURGAON || Gurgaon is hosting its first-ever Queer Pride on June 25, between 5.30pm and 8 pm at the main parking(next to elephant statue) Leisure Valley Park, sector 29, Gurgaon.
The pride is a celebration of the gender and sexuality expressions that we embody. “We are proud of our journeys towards a future of dignity and respect as well as in protest against oppression that blights LGBTQ+ lives” an organiser informed.
We are in rage against the countless deaths of queer folks across India and oppression in our homes, schools, colleges, workplaces, in the public space and inside the bedroom, he added.
But now more than ever, we need to come together in the face of a prolonged onslaught on our collective freedoms, from both state and state-sponsored elements.
A host of groups – Dalits, Muslims, tribals, women, free-speech advocates, students, immigrants and many others – are under violent attack. Queer freedom is meaningless if it doesn’t come give the liberty to speak out.
We continue to fight against section 377 that criminalises our lives and renders us vulnerable to bullying, extortion and wanton violence. We demand protections and affirmative action in fields of health, employment and education for vulnerable queer groups, the group added further.
