LUCKNOW || Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday inaugurated the ‘UP Mango Festival 2016’ at the Janeshwar Mishra Park in Gomtinagar. The two-day event is being jointly organised by the state tourism and the horticulture departments.
The chief minister reviewed the exhibition on this occasion and interacted with orchard owners and mango growers from across the state and the country who have come to participate in the festival.
He said the aim of the festival was to introduce people to mango, promote the fruit and to conserve it. Congratulating the concerned departments for the brilliant show, he said such events go a long way in promoting horti-tourism.
Through this festival, he said, mango lovers would get to know various varieties of mangoes and the mango growers and the exporters will get to interact with each other and that the festival will also give mango an international footprint.
Yadav also announced that festival would now on be organised every year in the state. The two-day festival has 42 categories of mangoes and a competition has also being organised.
In this, more than 3000samples of 725 species have been represented. Uttarakhand and Telangana states have also been represented at the festival. Mango products like pickles, squash, juice, Amaval and Pana have also been displayed for the people.
